Equality legislation set for a change?

Equality in Britain’s workplaces looks set for major reform after an upcoming stint on the Government’s Red Tape Challenge website.

Established to encourage political discussion on a range of contentious legislative issues, the Red Tape Challenge website gives the public a chance to have their say on regulation, both regarding rules they feel are necessary and those they feel should be scrapped.

The latest topic to come under scrutiny will be the recently enforced Equality Act 2010 – which replaced nine major pieces of legislation and scrapped 100 business regulations – and equality in the UK in general.

“The Equality Act is here to stay. Fairness and opportunity for all remain at the heart of government,” said Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone. “But there is always more we can do to ensure that business is not being strangled by red tape.

“This Government is committed to economic prosperity and reducing unnecessary rules and regulations. We want to hear from individuals, businesses, public sector organisations and voluntary and community organisations about how the Act is working in practice.”

Visit the Red Tape Challenge website today to have your say on how Britain’s equality landscape will be shaped in the future.
