Increases in age discrimination awards

leave a comment »

Since 2010, the average award for age discrimination claims has risen by nearly £20,000, according to Tribunal Service statistics.

The average payout of £30,289 is almost three times that seen in 2009/10, with disability discrimination awards also increasingly rapidly to £14,137 on average.

In June, the Tribunal Service released data showing that the number of age discrimination claims accepted by employment tribunals in 2010/11 had risen by 31% to 6,800, meaning there’s never been a better time to file a claim.

Age discrimination has overtaken race discrimination to become the third most frequent type of discrimination claim, meanwhile sex and disability discrimination awards also witnessed hikes, with the highest award in a discrimination case this year £289,167 for sex discrimination.
